Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) are voluntary employer sponsored services that offer FREE and confidential support to employees who have personal and/or work-related problems.
Traditional EAPs are implemented to assist employees in getting help for these problems so they remain on the job and be effective. These programs address a broad scope of issues that affect emotional well-being including substance abuse, stress, financial and marital problems.
Recently, EAPs have begun to expand to include health, wellness and work/life issues. In addition, employee’s wellness and employee assistance programs are being connected, slowly.
Thankfully, there appears to be a basic understanding that most physical health conditions co-exist with mental health conditions.
The modern workforce needs this connection. The top 3 well-being factors that hit an employer’s bottom line?
Lifestyle risks, physical conditions AND chronic conditions.
Time to focus on physical health in employee assistance programs.
